My Recent Sit Down with Brian Greenway of April Wine

After 57 years, April Wine are still rocking.

As a Canadian teenager in the 1970’s, April Wine music is embedded in my memories of my high school and post-secondary days. The band was everywhere; on the radio, blaring out of car stereos, and in my own album collection.

There have been several lineup changes over the years, including the recent death of Myles Goodwyn, but the band continues to rock and tour in 2026.

On April 22, April Wine will be the special guests of Triumph on an upcoming North American tour, including several Canadian dates. Check out Live Nation for details.

Brian Greenway has been with April Wine 1977, which makes him the longest current serving member in the group. Before joining April Wine in 1977, he was with Mashmakhan (with Jerry Mercer) and The Dudes (with Bob Segarini).

This is Brian’s second visit to Oldies Without Borders. In this interview, not only do we discuss the upcoming tour with Triumph, but also the important role bands like April Wine and Triumph played as pioneers in Canadian rock music.

My Sit Down 2.0 with Tom Paxton and John McCutcheon

Their first album, Together, topped the folk charts in 2023, so why not return to the studio for an encore?

Together Again is the second album from Tom Paxton (Wasn’t That a Party) and John McCutcheon (Christmas in the Trenches).

The album echoes many of the themes from their first album. They reflect on the past, the future, and current social and political issues.

There is nostalgia (Artie’s Last Stand, Famous for a Day), humour (Cheatin’ While I’m Eatin’), folk music history (Pathfinder, The Future), and “musical journalism” songs (Stop at Nothing) that will spark discussion.

One of my favourite tracks is Artie’s Last Stand, about the decline of physical newspapers:

The album is available to buy (digital download or physical copy) at folkmusic.com.

I recently got, um, “together again” with the duo. In addition to talking about their new work, we also discussed one of our favourite pastimes – baseball. (GO BLUE JAYS!)

Enjoy! Remember to like, comment, and share.
