Gary Lewis Returns for a Second Sit-Down

Pop Music Quiz Time!

Who was Cashbox Magazine’s Male Vocalist of the Year in 1965: Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, or Gary Lewis? (Hint: It wasn’t The King or The Chairman of the Board)

It was, in fact, Gary Lewis.

1965 was the breakthrough year for Gary Lewis and the Playboys. They released five singles that year: This Diamond Ring, Count Me In, Save Your Heart for Me, Everybody Loves a Clown, and She’s Just My Style. All of them reached the Top 5 in both Canada and the U.S.

This is my second visit with Gary Lewis. I had the chance to interview him back in 2023 for Oldies Without Borders.

Gary Lewis and the Playboys are part of the current My Generation Tour, with The Lovin’ Spoonful (with Steve Boone), and The Hollies, starring Terry Sylvester.

Recently Gary and I spent some time together on Zoom. It his second visit to Oldies Without Borders. This time, we spent time talking about the My Generation Tour, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and life in general.

If you enjoyed my interview, please “Like,” “Share,” and “Comment.”
