Looking Back on Dylan’s Decade of Dissent

Author Sean Egan has a reputation for writing with a strong attention to detail. His latest work, Decade of Dissent: How 1960’s Bob Dylan Changed the World, follows in that tradition.

Dylan’s recordings in the 1960’s include albums as The Freewheelin’ Bob DylanHighway 61 RevisitedBlonde On Blonde, and John Wesley Harding. He also recorded such classic songs as Blowin’ In The Wind, The Times They Are A-Changin, Mr. Tambourine Man, Like A Rolling Stone, Just Like A Woman, All Along The Watchtower, and Lay Lady Lay.

Egan points out in the book that the Dylan was a solo genius; he wrote on his own. Lennon and McCartney had each other, as did Jagger and Richards. The book includes stories from those who worked with Dylan during that period. It paints a picture of who he was as an artist back in the 1960’s and how he influenced music and society.

The book makes a fine addition to your summer reading list whether you’re a fan of Dylan or a fan of the music of the 1960’s.

Sean Egan took a break from his research and writing to join me on the phone from his home in London, England for an interview for Oldies Without Borders. We talked about Bob Dylan not only as a songwriter, but as a performer and as a musician.

Enjoy! Please Like and Share the interview.
